Thursday 6th August 1930

The AGM will be held on Thursday 6th August at 7.30pm.

Following government guidelines the board have decided to hold the AGM on the training pitch. We understand that this is not an ideal situation but in the current circumstances we hope you understand. We will make the minutes of the AGM available on the website.

Instructions.
When you arrive please head to the gazebo where we will take your name and number for track and trace. Then santise your hands. Following this we will issue you with a voting form which you can complete and place in the box. You will then be directed to an allocated space on the pitch. We would remind all attendees to ensure they keep their distance from others, and if you are feeling unwell please do not to attend.

And please remember that if you aren't attending then proxy forms need to be with Julian Owens by 17:30 on 5th August.

For those who don't know the applicants for the role being voted for here are a few words from them.

Iain Bushell - Chairman
It is with great excitement that I am writing this brief introduction about myself and what I believe that Stroud RFC can become in the coming years. Even in these unique times, I continue to be amazed by the commitment, enthusiasm, and desire to see the Club progress. The mini’s and juniors have a very strong base and fantastic support networks provided by both the coaches and parents, the first team have secured promotion after an unbeaten season and the Nomads are back playing league rugby. We are all now looking forward to playing against some of the South West’s best teams.
So, who am I? most, if not all of you, will know me as ‘Bushy’, a nickname given to me by dad way back when. It does come from my surname and not the mullet that I used to sport in the 90’s.... I come from Preston, Lancashire and although a proud Lancastrian (do not mention Yorkshire), I have made Stroud my adopted home since the mid noughties when I moved here with my wife Natalie. Natalie is Stroud born and bred and it was via her contacts that I was introduced to Stroud RFC in 2007. I played 1st XV rugby for the Club for several years and had the honour of captaining the side in 2009. I have 2 boys, Henry and Barney who are both members of the Mini’s and Junior set up and love their rugby. I coach Barney in the current U6 age group, and I continue to attempt to play with the senior teams, although injury does seem to have limited my appearances of late!
In my day job, I am a Project Manager for Skanska Construction where I am responsible for the planning and execution of construction projects. I have managed the delivery of a number of schools, hospitals and offices all over the UK. Recently I have returned to being based in Bristol after several years in the midlands. I believe that the skills that I demonstrate in this role; namely stakeholder management and effective communication will put me in good stead for the role of Chairman at Stroud RFC.
In terms of what I believe I can bring to Stroud RFC as Chairman, I believe that having representation in both the mini and juniors and the senior section has given me a good understanding of the hard work that continues to be contributed from all quarters, and consequently, the potential of what the Club could become with an even better co-ordinated approach. I believe that we have the potential to be a true family club, with seamless interaction between all stakeholders. I will bring a collaborative approach and ensure that all stakeholders within the Club will be heard equally. I will also work with all stakeholders to establish a 5 year plan for the Club. This will ensure that we have common goals and we are also accountable as we continue to develop.
In light of Covid, I understand that the Safety and Wellbeing of all, whether you are players, parents, spectators, or coaches, may be of concern to you. As we move towards what will hopefully be a swift resumption of rugby, I will ensure that the Club has robust procedures that will be communicated to all so that we may get back to playing and watching the game we love as soon and as safe as possible.
Lastly, I do intend to continue coaching in the mini’s as well as playing (hopefully more than occasionally!) for the Nomads. I think that by doing this, I will remain ‘in touch’ with the various elements within the club and this will help in establishing and maintaining a collaborative approach.
Thank you for your time Bushy.

Rob Stephens - Director of Senior Rugby
During my playing career I played for Newport (Shrops), United Services Portsmouth, Devonport Services, Helston and my last 6 years at Darlington. I played against Stroud on a number of occasions, always enjoying the competitive nature of the rugby and special camaraderie after the games. I have always been involved in high level sport, having also been a County standard golfer since I was 15. I am currently the Captain of the Gloucestershire Seniors Golf team and Captained and played in the English County Finals in 2017.

I am the Head of Property for a London based global law firm. I am responsible for the 54 office global portfolio, dealing with acquisition, fit-out, refurbishment, operational management and disposal.

On the sport side, I have been involved in the running of similar clubs, most recently Minchinhampton Golf Club, where I was a director for over 10 years, 3 of them as Chairman.
I believe that Stroud RFC is in an enviable position. The success of the 1st team over the past few seasons, culminating in what can only be described as an unbelievable 2019/20 puts the club in an ideal position to move forward and create a solid, sustainable, financial and sporting future. This doesn't need to be a revolution but the evolution of all elements of the club, Senior rugby, Junior rugby, club facilities, financial security and community engagement. Stroud RFC has a proud history to look back on and a great future to look forward to.
I am putting myself forward as a potential Director of the club and hope that the membership will want me to help take the club forward over the next few years.

Unfortunately, due to the change of date, I will be unable to attend the AGM in person but would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the Directors for their hard work and dedication to club over the past 4 years and particularly throughout the Covid pandemic lock down on behalf of the members, players and supporters of the club.
